LIGO Tours
Come have a look at LIGO! At 1:30 PM on the second Saturday and and at 3:00 PM on the fourth Friday of every month we offer free public drop-in tours that will give you an excellent look at our facility. If you have a group of your own of at least 15 participants, we can schedule a private weekday or evening tour. We regularly provide tours for community groups, astronomy clubs, professional societies and others. If you are interested in a school field trip, please visit our Teachers Corner. We invite you to check our maps and directions before coming to the site.
Our drop-in public tours are given at 1:30 PM on the second Saturday and at 3:00 PM on the fourth Friday of every month . If you would like to come by yourself, with friends or with family (bring the kids!) to join a LIGO presentation and tour, then pick a date and just show up. No reservations are necessary. If future dates were to change, the change would be listed here, but we have had no changes in the past five years in this schedule. Badges are not required for entrance to LIGO. Our facilities are accessible.
NOTE: We will offer a fourth-Friday tour on 11/27 at 3:00 PM, but there will be no tour on 12/25. In December 2009 we'll offer a tour on the fifth Thursday, 12/31, at 3:00 PM.
The following dates are booked for private group tours. If you have a group of 15 or more people who would like to visit LIGO, please e-mail your intentions to outreach(at)ligo-wa.caltech.edu or call the LIGO office at 509-372-8106. Please tell us the name of your group, suggest some weekday dates and times and estimate how many people you intend to have in your party. We have successfully done tour groups as small as 15 and as large as 150.
